Welcome

Hi, and welcome to my blog. My name is Kristin, and I have been sewing for 35 years, quilting for 10, and embroidering for just over 3. I currently have 10 vintage sewing machines, 1 modern sewing machine, and 1 'everything and more' machine. I own a variety of brands, but will mainly be using my Babylock Destiny 2 for any demonstrations. I love sewing and everything that goes with it.
I am hoping this blog will help others enjoy these arts as much as I do!

The main goal of this blog is to help those new to embroidery. I will cover topics like "what is the best machine for _____?" and "what do I need to get started?", along with basic maintenance, and maybe even some contests!

What Do I Need?  In order to successfully machine embroider, you obviously need an embroidery machine. It doesn't matter if you have a top of the line $20,000 machine, or a used 4" only hoop that you got off craigslist. ALL embroidery machines need the same supplies. 1. Designs 2. Stabilizer 3. Thread 4. Transfer program 5. Scissors 6. Something to embroider on 7. Needles 8. Bobbins 9. Knowledge Designs Designs can be downloaded from websites, or gotten off of CD or embroidery cards. They can range in price from free to hundreds or thousands of dollars. A simple search for 'free embroidery designs' will bring up countless designs. This is a great way to start your embroidery design collection. Even searching for a specific design will usually bring up at least one or two freebies. What Machine is Right for Me? Here is another 'simple' question I see from Embroidery Newbies. And then I watch in horror as they are assailed with hundreds of comments only offering a brand name, no model, no other information. So I developed this questionnaire and tips to help you whittle down the gigantic list of brands and models available. Whether this is your first machine, or you are looking to upgrade (or downgrade) 1. What is your TOTAL budget? This price will be the cap for EVERYTHING you need, including the machine, supplies, programs, classes, and anything else you may need/want. 2. What is your MACHINE budget? Yes, the latest and greatest machines are AMAZING!
